- Hertz teamed up with Hendrick Motorsports to create this special edition Camaro.
- Only 200 units of the SS variant were produced, making this one incredibly rare.
- Though intended for the rental fleet, this one was never rented and has just 37 miles.
Rental car giants aren’t typically known for creating limited-edition muscle cars, but then again, Hertz isn’t your typical rental company. Over the years, the brand has partnered with various carmakers to produce some eye-catching, special edition models and in May, one of these rare machines will hit the auction block. Meet the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS, a product of Hertz’s collaboration with Hendrick Motorsports.
Just 200 of these black-and-yellow Camaros were built and they were made available at 15 different airport locations across the US, including hotspots like Atlanta, Dallas, and Las Vegas. If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a rap star while cruising to your flight, this was your chance. Interestingly, this particular Camaro was never rented. Apparently, someone decided to keep it off the tarmac and tucked away, just waiting for its moment in the spotlight.

Now, this muscle car is making its way to Mecum Auctions, where it will be sold at their Indy 2025 event in Indianapolis on May 15. Mecum has confirmed that this Camaro is number 198 of the 200 units produced, and it has barely been touched, with a mere 37 miles (59 km) on its odometer. For anyone who’s ever rented a car and seen what kind of abuse they can endure, that’s a massive perk. You won’t be dealing with the usual post-rental wear and tear.

As you’d expect from a special edition, the Hertz-special Chevrolet Camaro SS comes with a host of standout features. These include a black body with contrasting yellow accents and stripes, 20-inch Satin Black wheels, illuminated door sill plates, and yellow brake calipers. There’s also a new front splitter, Hertz fender badges, and a black leather interior.

On the performance side, the Hertz special is equipped with a strut tower brace, a cold air intake, and a cat-back dual exhaust system. These upgrades help the 6.2-liter V8 engine churn out 480 hp (358 kW / 487 PS), a 25-hp (19 kW / 25 PS) bump over the factory SS. It was never meant to be a slouch.
Mecum has only released one photo of the Camaro SS up for auction so far, but since all 200 units were built to the same specs and colors, you can get a good idea of what to expect from these photos of another example, courtesy of Hendrick Motorsports, below.
The SS listed for auction should look just like this example (Photos: Hendrick Motorsports).
For those who really wanted to take it up a notch, Hertz and Hendrick Motorsports also offered an even rarer run of 24 examples based on the flagship ZL1, equipped with a larger Callaway Supercharger. With 750 hp (559 kW / 760 PS), that’s a serious power upgrade – 130 hp more than the standard ZL1 and 270 hp over Hertz’s Camaro SS. But, if you’re hoping to snag one of those, well, good luck finding one for sale.
While it’s hard to predict exactly what this Camaro SS will sell for, some limited-edition Hertz cars have been known to attract strong bids at auction. If you’re looking for something that combines a bit of history, muscle, and exclusivity, this Camaro, which you can check out out here, could be your ticket.
