Lake Tahoe is one of the most stunning destinations in the US, with its breathtaking scenery, opulent hotels, and plenty of scenic routes to satisfy any driving enthusiast. So, it’s no surprise that Porsche has chosen this picturesque spot for a seven-day tour this August. What might raise an eyebrow, however, is just how much this little getaway will cost you.

The Lake Tahoe Tour, running from August 17-23, will set you back a staggering $18,500 per person for double occupancy or $21,500 for a solo adventure. That breaks down to a cool $2,643 to $3,071 per night. For context, that’s roughly what you’d pay for a brand-new Nissan Versa (from $17,190) or Sentra sedan ($21,590) respectively. Just saying.
This price includes accommodations, meals, and, most importantly, the cars you’ll be driving. Couples will share a car, while solo travelers will be paired with another guest.
Not Quite a GT3 RS, But Still Pretty Sweet
No, you won’t get your hands on any of Porsche’s exclusive GT models, but the lineup isn’t exactly lacking. Tour participants will drive a mix of Porsche 911s, including the 911 Cabriolet, 911 Carrera GTS, 911 Turbo S, and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet. Sure, it would be nice to take a GT3 RS for a spin, but these options should still be more than enough to keep the adrenaline flowing, especially on public roads.

For the first day, participants will fly into Sacramento and be shuttled to the Kimpton-Sawyer Hotel where they will enjoy a welcome dinner with staff and fellow travelers. The following day, they will leave the city and head to the San Joaquin Valley with a stop at Sutters Creek in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The drive continues across Hwy 49, Hwy 26, and the Carson Pass Highway before a lunch stop and an overnight stay at the Edgewood Resort on the shore of Lake Tahoe.
On the second day, the convoy heads up the eastern shore of the lake, up the Mount Rose Highway, and down into the Washoe Valley. The 911s will then head to Virginia City and, on the way back to Lake Tahoe, pass through Six Mile Canyon Road and Carson City. The next day, participants will complete a full lap of Lake Tahoe and on the fifth day, they will head back to Hwy 49 and pass through several small mining towns and across stunning mountain passes. On the sixth day, the tour heads back to Sacramento, visiting Downieville, Sierra City, Nevada City, Grassville, and Auburn on the way.
An Epic Road Trip—If You Can Afford It
All things considered, this sounds like an incredible road trip, blending scenic routes and luxurious cars. The only downside? The price tag. If only it were a mere $1,850 per person instead of $18,500—though, let’s be real, if you could afford a 911, that price probably wouldn’t sting quite so much.
