- A rare two-door Chevelle Malibu wagon is coming up for auction on Mar 22.
- The restomodded ’64 is stuffed with a supercharged LT4 V8 making 650 hp.
- Reupholstered BMW seats and a full brake and chassis upgrade also feature.
Chevy currently has nine SUVs in its US lineup but not a single wagon. But 61 years ago it was a different story. SUVs were in the minority andwagon buyers had plenty of options. The little Chevy II, mid-size Chevelle and full-size Biscayne/Bel Air/Impala were all available with wagon bodies, but none of them packed as much muscle as this tasty restomod.
Up for auction with Mecum on March 22, it started life as a 1964 Chevelle with the rare two-door body. Chevelle wagons could also be ordered with four doors for extra practicality and a less hearse-y look, but those huge rear side windows only make this custom classic more eye-catching.

This one was modified by Dutch Boys Hot Rods in Vicksburg, Michigan, who slotted a modern 650 hp (659 PS) GM LT4 V8 under the hood and backed it up with a 10-speed automatic transmission for crushing straight-line go and relaxed freeway cruising.
Considering ’64 Chevelles never came with more than around 280 net hp (284 PS) when new, the rest of the car was always going to need a major technical makeover to handle that LT4, and the Dutch Boys obliged. They added an Art Morrison Sport GT chassis kit, Strange Engineering coilover shocks, Wildwood brakes and huge Budnik wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
Custom legend Art Himsl from Concord, California, fixed up the bodywork and applied the light yellow paint, while inside the Chevelle was treated to a tan leather facelift incorporating reupholstered BMW heated seats. The stylish woven carpet in the wide shallow trunk shows some signs of wear, but then a classic this practical is just begging to be used. Housing the battery inside the wicker case in the trunk is also a stylish touch.
Someone clearly invested a ton of money in this Chevelle at one point, but since Mecum doesn’t provide an estimate, we’ll have to wait to find out what it’s worth in 2025. You can check out the full listing here, but if you’re interested in bidding, you’d better hurry, because the auction ends today.
