• President Trump has promised to buy a Tesla as a “show of confidence and support for Elon Musk.”
  • He claimed people are trying to “illegally and collusively boycott Tesla” to harm Musk.
  • Trump has routinely attacked electric vehicles and government efforts to support them.

Tesla’s stock has fallen off a cliff, while sales are falling in a number of markets. If that wasn’t bad enough, there’s been multiple protests and attacks at Tesla stores across the country.

That doesn’t paint a rosy picture for the future, but embattled CEO Elon Musk is getting a little support from President Trump. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said “Elon Musk is ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!”

While thousands of fired federal employees might disagree, Trump claimed the “Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla.” The President went on to call Tesla “one of the world’s great automakers” and say people are rebelling against the brand to harm Musk and “everything he stands for.”

Of course, that’s the whole point of a protest and there’s nothing illegal with not buying a product if you don’t want it or support it. That being said, this hasn’t stopped Musk from suing advertisers who fled his own social media site.

Regardless, Trump said he’s going to buy a new Tesla tomorrow morning as a “show of confidence and support for Elon Musk.” He went on to claim the South African born billionaire was a “truly great American” and shouldn’t be punished for trying to “make America great again.”

It remains to be seen if Trump will really buy a Tesla and, if he does, it would be hypocritical as he’s routinely dumped on electric vehicles and has been working to slash government support for them. That being said, this mostly appears to be for attention and theatrics.
