For years, Volkswagen has been selling a handful of distinctive sedan models in China, including the Sagitar, which is produced in partnership with FAW. This week, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology unveiled the facelifted Sagitar, which brings a much-needed design overhaul that significantly improves its appearance compared to the existing model.

Essentially, the Sagitar is a longer-wheelbase version of the 7th-generation Jetta sold in Western markets, including North America, and it’s comparable in size to the Passat. The sedan measures 4,812 mm (189.4 inches) in length, 1,813 mm (71.3 inches) in width, and 1,479 mm (58.2 inches) in height, with a 2,731 mm (107.5-inch) wheelbase. While its exterior design might not be considered particularly stylish, the updated model now has a more modern look, leaving behind its outdated, pre-2020 design cues.

The new Sagitar features refreshed headlights with blacked-out lenses and a more refined front grille with a subtle split. The VW badge can be customized with either a blacked-out or chrome finish, and a piece of black trim now connects the small air intakes for added visual interest.

Elsewhere, VW fitted new door handles that sit flush with the bodywork and will offer three new 17-inch wheel designs with black and silver spokes, a sunroof, and a black shark fin antenna. Visible at the rear is a prominent Sagitar badge and LED taillights with a light bar.

Under the hood, the facelifted Sagitar will be available exclusively with a 1.5-liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing a modest 158 hp (118 kW). This power output is likely sufficient for a sedan of this size and is expected to offer good fuel efficiency, though specifics on fuel consumption remain undisclosed. Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Additionally, Volkswagen is equipping the Sagitar with some modern tech, including an onboard video driver recorder and an event data recorder. features that are becoming more common in new vehicles for safety and security purposes.
