• The lightweight Jesko Absolut stormed down the quarter-mile in 8.5 seconds.
  • Koenigsegg has improved the transmission’s shift logic and launch control.
  • An over-the-air update will give Jesko owners these important changes.

No production car running on gasoline accelerates harder than the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut. The Swedish firm reworked the hypercar’s transmission and launch control, then took the result back to the test track and rewrote its own record books. Koenigsegg has built a habit of doing this, and the latest numbers show the company isn’t finished chasing the limits of what a combustion engine and a clever gearbox can do together.

During recent testing at its headquarters, any updated Jesko Absolut blasted down the quarter-mile in just 8.54 seconds at staggering 190 mph (305 km/h) while crushing the half-mile in a blistering 12.76 seconds at 232 mph (373 km/h).

That quarter-mile time isn’t an outright record for a production car, as that crown is held by the pure electric Rimac Nevera R, which ran down the quarter-mile in just 7.9 seconds last year. However, the Jesko is the first to cross this mark going more than 186 mph (300 km/h), and its time was achieved on an unprepped surface. In addition, the Jesko is rear-wheel drive and doesn’t rely on the instant, all-wheel drive torque like the Rimac.

During the same run, the Jesko Absolut accelerated to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.35 seconds, as verified by Racelogic, needed just 4.88 seconds to hit 124 mph (200 km/h), and broke through the 186 mph (300 km/h) mark in just 8.30 seconds. For a company that says it doesn’t care about straight-line performance, these are some frankly insane numbers.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut owners will soon benefit from improvements to the car’s transmission and launch control software, with an over-the-air update set to roll out.

Admittedly, while it’s cool to see how quick the Jesko Absolut is in a straight line, we’re just as interested in its top speed. The brand quotes a theoretical 330 mph (531 km/h), but it has yet to be tested at that speed.
