- Ford is reportedly working on a new Bronco-based pickup.
- The rugged truck is expected near the end of the decade.
- It could further expand the lineup next to the electric Fathom.
Ford has a lot in motion right now. The Blue Oval is pushing into new territory with fresh names, chief among them the electric Fathom pickup, while at the same time working out how much more mileage it can get from the nameplates buyers already know. That second strategy is the cheaper one, and Ford appears committed to it. Along with the four-door Mustang sedan and its hybrid V8, the company is reportedly developing a Bronco pickup.
The rugged model would likely sit alongside the midsize Ranger and the midsize electric Fathom in Ford’s truck hierarchy, positioning it above the compact Maverick and below the full-size F-Series lineup. While Ford has yet to confirm the news, Automotive News reports that the Bronco pickup could hit the roads before the end of the decade.

The historic nameplate came back in 2020, when Ford launched the ladder-frame Bronco in two-door and four-door forms next to the softer unibody Bronco Sport. A pickup was rumored for 2024 as a straight shot at the Jeep Gladiator, then reportedly cancelled before production. Ford is playing its future close to the vest, though the idea appears to be back on the board.
A Bronco pickup will share its ladder frame architecture with the standard off-roader, which was developed alongside the Ranger. Under the hood, it could utilize the existing turbo 2.3-liter four-cylinder and 2.7-liter V6 engines as well as the upcoming self-charging hybrid powertrain, which is expected to join the Bronco lineup for the 2027 or 2028 model year.

Without any spy shots of camouflaged prototypes on hand, we don’t know whether the Bronco pickup will be visually differentiated from its siblings. Our speculative rendering depicts a dual-cab truck combining the front end of the Bronco with an extended wheelbase and a rear bed. Besides the Jeep Gladiator, rivals will include an upcoming rugged pickup by Hyundai based on the Boulder concept.
Besides the new truck, the Bronco platform will reportedly spawn a new Lincoln off-roader. This rugged but luxurious SUV will target premium buyers with an estimated starting price north of $70,000, making it roughly half as expensive as a Mercedes G-Class. Production of the new Lincoln is rumored to begin in late summer 2029 at Michigan Assembly in Wayne, next to its Ford Bronco twin.
