- The updated C-Class reaches U.S. dealers in the first half of 2027.
- Mercedes adds an illuminated grille, star-shaped lights, and new AI-powered MBUX.
- Its electrified 2.0-liter engine produces 255 hp, plus temporary overboost.
Mercedes-Benz has given the C-Class its biggest technical overhaul yet. That said, you’ll probably notice the grille before very much else. The refreshed sedan gets an illuminated central star and grille surround, plus little chrome stars scattered through the grille itself. It’s what’s under the skin that really helps this heavily updated C-Class stand out from any that came before.
First and foremost, let’s focus on the new MB.OS operating system in the car. It allows Mercedes to provide over-the-air updates to more systems in the C-Class while offering a fresh user interface with more features. On top of that, it’s now employing ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini within the system.
Mercedes says the MBUX Virtual Assistant can handle multi-turn conversations, remember context during an interaction, answer general questions, find points of interest, and even pull up music when the driver can only remember half a lyric or a vague description. In other words, Mercedes is trying to give you an always-on, always-ready passenger who will do whatever they can to help you on your journey.

There’s also a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an 11.9-inch portrait-style center display, Google-based navigation, and optional augmented-reality head-up display tech borrowed from the S-Class and EQS. Mercedes will offer an upgraded 15-speaker Burmester 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos, while ambient lighting now stretches farther across the dashboard and door panels. Again, the big upgrades here aside from the new face are tech-focused.
Power And Hardware Updates
Under the hood sits an updated turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The gas engine makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. A new electric auxiliary compressor is designed to help sharpen low-rpm response, while the integrated starter-generator can contribute up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm).
Mercedes also says an overboost feature can add 27 hp for around 20 seconds at a time. The peak gasoline-engine figures remain unchanged, but Mercedes says the revised hardware should provide more immediate low-rpm response and more linear acceleration.
The automaker has retuned the suspension, fitted more sound insulation, and claims a drag coefficient as low as 0.24. There are also eight cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to support the latest MB.DRIVE driver-assistance and parking features.

Mercedes has also made MB.DRIVE Parking Assist 360 standard, including a 360-degree camera and improved surround-view displays. A new reverse-maneuvering function can automatically back the car along part of the route it has just traveled, which should be handy when a narrow driveway, dead-end trail, or poorly planned parking lot suddenly runs out of room.
European Updates
While Mercedes has detailed only the 255-hp C-Class for America so far, Europe gets a much broader range. That includes gasoline and diesel four-cylinders, the C-Class Estate, and a C 400 e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid. Mercedes says that model has a 19.53-kWh usable battery, up to 62 miles (100 km) of WLTP electric range, and charging capability of up to 11 kW on AC power or 55 kW on DC fast chargers.
European buyers can also get rear-axle steering, which turns the rear wheels by up to 2.5 degrees. Mercedes says that trims 17 inches (43 cm) from the sedan’s turning circle, bringing it down to 34.9 feet (10.64 meters), while also improving stability at speed. The company hasn’t said which, if any, of these features or powertrains will make the trip to America.
Styling
Optional Digital Light headlamps now use micro-LED technology, which Mercedes says provides a larger, higher-resolution field of illumination while using up to 50% less energy than before. New bumpers, revised head- and taillights with a star-shaped signature, and new wheel options round out the visual changes.
Buyers looking for more visual aggression can also order the AMG Line Plus for the first time. It adds the Night Package, gloss-black spoiler and tailpipe trim, plus sport seats with red contrast stitching and matching red seatbelts. Two new colors, Miami Silver Metallic and the blue-grey Moody Sky Grey Metallic, join the palette as well. Mercedes hasn’t announced U.S. pricing yet, but the updated C-Class reaches dealers in the first half of 2027.
