Volvo and Polestar’s expectations on customer demand for the S60 and V60 Polestar were exceeded substantially by reality last year, which is why the two companies have decided to build 750 units in 2015 and expand to new markets.

While last year the Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar were sold in Australia, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States, 2015 will mark the models’ debut in the Middle East, a region that apparently shows strong interest for Polestar. The new countries to get the MY16 Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar include Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

“The Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar are selling faster than we expected, and we have, as a result decided to expand into new markets. Polestar remains an integral performance brand partner and this is a clear sign of confidence in the potential of this partnership,” said Anders H. Gustavsson, Vice President Special Products at Volvo Car Group.

”We are delighted to see the positive response from customers all over the world on our very first production car. This marks another important milestone for Polestar,” added Christian Dahl, CEO of Polestar.

The Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar are powered by a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder inline turbocharged T6 engine producing 350PS (345hp) at 5,250 rpm and 500Nm (369lb-ft) of torque between 3,000 and 4,750 rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an automatic six-speed transmission and the Polestar developed Haldex 4WD system.

Performance-wise, the Volvo S60 Polestar sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds (5.0 seconds for the V60 Polestar) and reaches an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
