VW has opened the order books for the new 2019 Touareg in the UK, while also releasing pricing details.

The new, third-generation VW Touareg will initially be available with a single powertrain option in the UK, the 3.0-liter diesel V6 TDI that produces 282hp (286PS) and 442lb-ft (600Nm) of peak torque and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Pricing for the new VW flagship SUV starts from £55,095.

VW claims that the new Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI can do the 0-62mph (100km/h) in 6.1 seconds, with a top speed of 146mph (235km/h) and a combined fuel economy of 42.8mpg UK (6.6lt/100km). Thanks to the massive torque of the engine, the new Touareg can haul braked trailers of up to 3.5 tonnes (7,700lbs).

The company will add more powertrain options in the future, starting with a cheaper 228hp (231PS) version of the 3.0-liter TDI engine in the autumn. A 335hp (340PS) 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 TFSI petrol version will become available to order in late 2018 and deliveries set to begin in 2019. A launch date for the 362hp plug-in hybrid version has yet to be set.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the new VW Touareg lies inside the cabin; the company calls it Innovation Cockpit as it features a 15-inch touchscreen display merged under a single glass surface with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster.

Customers in the UK will get to choose between three trim levels: SEL, R-Line and the new R-Line Tech.
