BMW‘s upcoming introductions for the 2016 model year in the USA were leaked (?) online revealing the production dates for several new models.
In the list posted on Bimmerpost by the usually well-informed Jason, we see that these include the facelifted 3-Series sedan (F80), Touring (F31), Gran Turismo (F34) and M3 Sedan (F80), the all-new X1 crossover (F48) and the next generation 7-Series (G12).
If you take a closer look at the models, you’ll see that BMW plans to replace the 335i sedan with the 340i featuring a newer 3.0-liter turbocharged straight six, codenamed B58, and add the 328e, which should be the 242hp (245PS) plug-in hybrid version (see here).
Elsewhere, the second generation X1 built on the same platform as the European 2-Series Active Tourer, will launch in two flavors, the front-wheel drive sDrive25i and the all-wheel drive xDrive25i, both powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four gasoline unit.
The new 7-Series sedan will be available exclusively with the long wheelbase body (the regular wheelbase model has the G11 codename) in three initial versions, the turbo’d 3.0-liter six-cylinder 740Li and the twin-turbo V8 750Li in both rear- and all-wheel drive trims.
Jason said in his posting that, typically, US dealers get the cars “approximately 2 months after production begins”, which in the list, is mentioned under SOP (Start of Production). He added that the X4 M40i will come next year as a 2017 model.
Notes:
SOP = Start of Production for demo and initial stock cars.
Start of Regular Production is for customer ordered cars.
