The McLaren P1 is probably one of the top 5 hypercars in the world today. That’s the category above supercar. It’s much more than just giving you track oriented performance, or blowing your mind in a straight line.

Hypercars are about perfection, the pinnacle of performance. But in this world, it’s the hybrid hypercar that holds the keys to the future. You can talk Pagani or Bugatti, but it seems like nowadays everybody’s talking 918, P1 and LaFerrari. That is simply the way things evolve.

As for the McLaren P1, we’re talking about a hybrid powertrain with a mid mounted twin turbo 3.8 liter V8, working alongside an electric motor with all the power going to the rear wheels. And there is plenty of power, around 916 PS that do most of their damage with the help of 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. That’s enough to get you from 0 to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds and all the way up to 350 km/h (217 mph).

Of course, it’s not just the performance when it comes to this car. It’s the way it looks too. The P1 has an almost organic shape to it, which is something that the 918 and the LaFerrari don’t bring to the table – even though those are great looking cars as well.

This photo shoot took place somewhere in Death Valley, one of the driest and hottest areas in North America. It almost looks like you’re on another planet and the P1 is the craft you arrived in. They should have used this thing during the filming of Interstellar.
