There’s clearly a lot of demand for Kia’s range of Euro models, because its plant in the Slovakian town of Zilina can’t churn them out fast enough. Last year it made 323,000 cars – a record for the company’s European side of the business.

Aside from these, the site also saw the assembly of 493,000 engines (also a new record) and both figures represent a 3 percent increase over 2013.

The models manufactured there are Sportage (which makes up 55 percent of the pant’s output), the Cee’d (and all its varieties which add another 36 percent), while the rest goes to the Venga supermini.

Engines-wise, the plant’s production is split evenly between small-capacity petrol and diesel units (around 50 percent for each) – its most prolific unit is the 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol which it alone made up 22 percent of the yearly production run.
