These could be some of the last scoop shots we get of the new Honda Civic Type R, as it’s slated to go on sale this spring, with a likely world premiere at the Geneva show in March.
We’ve seen numerous Civic Type R prototypes in a varying state of completion over the past year, so we still don’t know if the concept will be produced as is or with certain changes to the body, such as the smaller rear wing, less pronounced fenders, and tail lamps from the recently facelifted hatchback found on this tester, instead of the more aggressive design of the study.
The good news is that Honda will remain true to the concept’s performance specifications that include a new 2.0-liter turbocharged i-VTEC four banger redlining at 7,000rpm and delivering “more than 280PS / 276hp”, while it recently confirmed a short-shifting six-speed manual gearbox.
It also said that the new Civic Type R will launch with a new “+R” driving mode selected through the steering wheel that improves engine and steering responsiveness and stiffens the adaptive dampers.
The Japanese brand is adamant that the hot hatch will be the fastest front-wheel drive production model on the ‘Ring, a distinction that currently belongs to Renault and it’s Megane RS 275 Trophy-R that lapped the Nordschleife in 7:54.36.
