Toyota’s troubled Scion brand plans to tackle falling sales (-15,1% in 2014) with the introduction of its first sedan model and a new hatchback.
Scion said on Wednesday it would debut the unnamed four-door saloon at the 2015 New York International Auto Show in April along with the production version of the iM Concept that will carry the iM nameplate when it arrives in North American showrooms this spring.
“With the iM hatchback and our first sedan, we’re inviting drivers to re-imagine what they can accomplish with a Scion,” said Scion Group Vice President Doug Murtha. “Both new models will stand out in the marketplace for their style and substance. I can confidently predict that 2015 will be an exciting year for Scion.”
At this point, it remains unknown if the sedan is related to the iM, which is the North American version of the European market Toyota Auris, or if it will be a derivative of the Mazda2-based subcompact that Toyota plans to source from Mexico.
The Japanese firm said it will also bring a third new vehicle to the market within the next three years “aimed at independently minded 18-34 year olds”, but declined to offer any additional details.
