Well this is either very good news for Hyundai or the exct opposite for BMW. The Bavarian automaker has just lost the chief engineer of its sporty M division, who has been snapped up by ever-improving Hyundai. Albert Biermann will now be in charge of the Korean automaker’s performance cars and forgive us for being intrigued.

Hyundai has already proved it can build competent nicely driving sporty cars, like the Genesis Coupe (pictured) and latest Genesis sedan. Its front-wheel drive cars are getting better too, although perhaps this is an area where their trailing behind the competition is noticeable.

The marque is reportedly planning on launching its own performance division called “N” (probably because M was already taken…) and the first car to bear the new badge is a hot i20.

We don’t blame Hyundai for reeling in even more foreign talent, since people like their ex-Audi design chief, Peter Schreyer, have done wonders in changing the brand’s image.

At Hyundai, Biermann “will be in charge of testing and developing performance cars at a research centre in Seoul starting April, Hyundai-Kia said in statement on Monday. He will also advise on product strategy and marketing for the European market,” according to Reuters.
