BMW will unveil the facelifted 1-Series in January 2015, prior to the car’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show, with the Germans preparing significant styling and mechanical upgrades.
A problem many have noticed with the current model is the awkward-looking front end, which is mainly due to the shape of the headlights. Expect that problem to be solved by the facelifted 1-Series, which according to a report from BMW Blog, will get slimmer headlights with a raised lower edge, similar to those from the 2-Series that some tuners have already fitted to the hatch. The headlights will be available in full LED. There will be a downsized grille as well to fit the revised front fascia.
The most significant changes will take place under the bonnet, as the facelifted 1-Series will follow in the footsteps of the 2-Series and adopt three-cylinder engines (both petrol and diesel) for the first time ever. The new B37 and B38 three-cylinder engines found in the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer and the new Mini will power the entry level 1-Series hatches. For these models, BMW is expected to use the 116d and 116i monikers.
Four-cylinder units will also be available and will include the new BMW B47 diesel engine offered in the 118d, 120d and 125d. The 118d will get 150PS, while the 120d will get 190PS. As for the range-topping 125d, it should be slightly more powerful than the current model’s 218PS. As with the current 1-Series hatch, the facelifted model will not be offered in the US.
