Porsche surprised our spies this week with a Boxster prototype wearing all the goods we’ve seen on the various Cayman GT4 testers.
These include the more aggressively styled bodywork with a new front bumper featuring larger air intakes, a cooling duct just ahead of the bonnet, a mini-ducktail rear spoiler, bigger wheels and a beefier braking system on both axles.
If this is indeed a tester for a Boxster GT4, then it will have the same powertrain as the hardtop Cayman GT4, which is believed to get either a new turbocharged unit or, more likely, a larger displacement version of the Cayman GTS’ flat-six with 3.6-liters delivering anywhere between 360hp to 400hp.
Power should be transferred to the rear wheels through Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission – unless the Germans also give the GT4 models a manual gearbox option too.
If Porsche has given the Boxster GT4 the green light, then it will be introduced together with the Cayman next year.
