A naturally-aspirated, 5,2-liter V8 with more than 500HP mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels through a Torsen limited-slip diff. What’s not to like about the new Shelby GT350?
On paper, at least, it looks like a very enticing package, what with Ford going head over heels to make sure its newest addition to the sixth-generation Mustang is a true sports car that also feels at home in a race track.
Next year, the Blue Oval will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350 Mustang at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track in California during the Rolex Motorsports Reunion event of the Monterey Classic Car Week.
In fact, Ford will design a paddock display that will show the history of the brand, its racing achievements and all the cars that made it famous. The Shelby GT350, which debuted just one year after the launch of the original Mustang half a century ago, won three consecutive SCCA national championships.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be able to share one of the most iconic performance Mustang nameplates – the Shelby GT350 Mustang – with all of the Shelby enthusiasts and race fans at next year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion”, said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president of Global Marketing, Sales and Service. “The new GT350 is a true testament to its heritage and builds on Carroll Shelby’s commitment to performance and racing, and we look forward to celebrating the car’s 50th anniversary and marking it with great racing next summer.”
The event, in which a special 1965-1972 Shelby GT350 Mustang group has been added in honor of the anniversary, will take place on August 13-16, 2015 and you will be able to book your tickets from December 3.
