First, it was on, then it was off and now it’s on again in the most revealing manner: Bentley’s Grand Convertible that made its world premiere as a near-production concept in LA.
Bentley won’t say that it has green-lighted the convertible for production yet, and instead insists that it’s gauging interest.
“We are eagerly awaiting the response of our customers to this car,” said Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer. “We will ensure that this car – if it reaches the roads – will be a highly exclusive, extremely limited collector’s piece.”
It’s a Mulsanne Convertible in all but the name, with the drop top model featuring the same 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8 with 537 PS (530hp) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb.ft) of torque.
Bentley is especially proud about the interior stating that its “fashioned entirely by hand from the very finest materials” including 14 naturally tanned leather hides over the seats and doors and a tonneau cover that “features the largest piece of wood veneer ever applied to a Bentley”.
If, or rather when it enters production, the Grand Convertible will go up against Rolls Royce’s Phantom Drophead Coupe.
