Each luxury/premium automaker needs to have that special something that steers buyers their way. Lincoln has yet to find its way in the modern context of the industry, though, and it therefor lacks this all important redeeming feature.

It is trying to carve its own niche, though, and is now advertising itself as a maker of very quiet cars.

A recently posted press blurb says their vehicles’ “design, science and engineering solutions combine to create warm, quiet vehicle environment.” It goes on to suggest their offerings feature “advanced materials including laminate glass and sound insulation, as well as high-tech active noise control contribute to feeling of seclusion.”

The overall feeling of quietness is further emphasized by the reduction of “visual noise.” This refers to the way the interior is designed and its aim to “provide a refuge from a hectic world.” It’s achieved by extensive use of forms and line that are arranged in such a away that they flow smoothly.

Even the interior trim panels are made out of sound absorbing material. It’s also present in the pillars and carpets too.

The final piece of the hushed cabin combo is active noise cancellation. It works like all other such systems by using microphones to detect the noise going into the cabin, then playing the reverse of that noise back in.
