Refreshed 2016 Audi A6 and A7 Head to LA Show with More Powerful Engines

Audi’s facelifted A6 and A7 models will have their North American premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

First seen at the Paris Motor Show in October, the A6 and A7 get tweaked designs along with new technologies and more powerful engines for the 2016 model year.

Both cars receive a massaged appearance with new LED headlamps and taillights, plus redesigned grille and bumpers, trapezoidal tailpipes, fresh interior colors, and improved versions of Audi’s MMI navigation and Head-Up Display systems.

For the 2016MY, the A6 will continue to offer the same range of engines, including the 2.0T, 3.0T, TDI clean diesel and the high-performance S6.

However, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four is new and now delivers 252hp (+32hp) and 273 lb-ft (+15 lb-ft) of torque with the FWD model paired to a revised 7sp dual clutch S tronic transmission and the quattro AWD to an 8-speed automatic Tiptronic.

The improved 3.0-liter V6 gasoline lump gains 23hp to deliver 333hp and 325 lb-ft, while the diesel-fueled 3.0-liter TDI remains unchanged producing 240hp and 428 lb-ft. Finally, the S6’s tweaked 4.0-liter TFSI V8 now returns 450hp, up 30hp from before, along with 406 lb-ft of torque.

The A7 gets the same powertrain upgrades and will be available with the 333hp 3.0-liter V6 and 240hp 3.0-liter TDI, along with the 450hp S7 and the unaffected 560hp RS7.

Finally, on both models, Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive has been upgraded with new software algorithms to “further improve responsiveness and provide even better agility,” according to the automaker.

Pricing for the 2016MY A6 and A7 is to be announced.
