What James Glickenhaus is basically saying is that, he wants the new road-going racing car to be completely road legal and drivable on public tarmac and then, with minimal changes, to have it race ready. By race we mean the Le Mans 24 Hours race which he wants to enter with the upcoming SCG 003.

It’s not clear if this variant will be the only one they plan to make, the so-called “Road and Race” version, but it will apparently be available for customer orders. Both road- and race-only versions will be offered, it seems, but “separate road-to-race and race-to-road conversion kits” will be on the menu, as well.

RoadAndTrack received an email from Glickenhaus in which he explained his plans. 2016 is the year when he plans to drive to Le Mans from Turin, in Italy, in a completed SCG 003. Upon arrival, he will begin converting the car from road to race spec via a kit that includes “a road-engine/gearbox-to-race-engine/gearbox swap, which is plug-and-play pre-mounted to a race-conversion carbon fiber rear subframe.”

After the race, he plans to convert it back to road spec and then drive it to Paris. It is, in essence, the way racing worked before the Second World War, though since this is being attempted now it can’t not have been contrived (i.e. the road engine needs to come out of the bespoke carbon chassis completely and be replaced with a race unit).
