French electric carmaker Venturi visited the Paris Auto Show with the latest iteration of its unusual America buggy that comes with 401hp (407PS).
They’re not exactly a household name, but the Monegasque company came to our attention after it joined forces with Leonardo DiCaprio to enter a team in the FIA Formula E Championship last year.
The America itself is not new, but the latest version trades its 300hp and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) electric motor for a more powerful unit delivering 401hp (407PS) and 480Nm (354 lb-ft). The buggy tips the scales at 1,525kg (3,362 lbs).
Venturi says the rear-wheel drive only America can hit 100km/h (62mph) in 4.5 seconds and 200km/h (124mph) in 14 seconds before it tops out at 220km/h (137mph).
A 53kWh Lithium Ion Polymer battery pack provides a driving range of up to 250 km (155 miles) and it can be fully charged from empty through a 22kW on-board charger in 3.5 hours, always according to the company.
It measures 4,125mm long, 2,060mm wide and 1,450mm tall, and has a ground clearance of 280mm, while riding on chunky 20-inch wheels on 255/45 tires at the front and 275/45 at the rear.
Only 25 examples of the Venturi America will be built at an as of yet undisclosed price, with production to start in 2015.
