The new Skoda Fabia and Fabia Combi are far from the most striking cars to be shown at the Paris motor show this year. However, they are among the ones that will become most commonplace on Euro roads in years to come, so their importance cannot be overstated.

We’ve already discussed the Audi A1/VW Polo mishmash styling, as well as the technical bits and the ways in which it’s more advanced than its predecessor.

Either model is really hard to fault, but it’s the Combi that impresses most through the extensive cargo space it offers. It gains 25 liters over the previous model and is a whopping 200 liters roomier than that of the hatch at 530 liters. It also looks pretty smart as an estate, almost to the point where you don’t notice it’s load-lugging nature.

It reminds us of the way Audi does its A3 Sportback estate – you don’t really notice it’s one of those until you place it alongside the regular hatch and see the difference; a highly positive design trait in our book.
