One of the big questions about the fourth-gen MX-5 that remains unanswered (together with the engine range) is whether Mazda will again offer a retractable hardtop version of the car as it does with the current NC MX-5.

A report from Automobile magazine said that when they asked Mazda, neither their insider nor any official speaking on the record “would say whether a PRHT (Power Retractable Hard Top) would be added in subsequent years”.

They did note, however, that some sort of hardtop, fixed or retractable, would “certainly be added for club racing”.

While the PRHT does add weight to the MX-5 NC over the regular model, it does have its perks, especially since it retains the soft-top’s 150-liter / 5.3 cu.ft. boot intact.

This brings us to the question of the day; would you like to see a similar version offered on the new 2016 MX-5 or should Mazda just design an optional hardtop and be done with it?
