We’ve spied the BMW that many Bimmer fans believe will revive the spirit of the M3 Coupe in its first three iterations, if not engine-, footprint-wise, the M2, in a more production ready outfit.
There are a few things missing like the M-style door mirrors, perhaps a scooped hood and maybe, just maybe, a carbon fiber roof, but compared to earlier testers like the black-colored model you see pictured below, the more recent red one has ditched the M235i front and rear bumpers for M2 production units.
The muscular wheelarches for the wider tracks and bigger wheels remain, however, we’re not sure if the front ones continue to house air outlets like on the M235i Racing-sourced fenders used on the older prototypes.
This model looks like its riding on 19-inch wheels through which we can see the massive brake discs.
Reports suggest that the M2 will be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged-six producing around 380 ponies driving the rear wheels through a limited slip differential. It is believed that BMW will launch the car sometime in 2015.
Note: The red-colored M2 is the latest prototype
