Renault plans to present a brand new concept car (not the one pictured above) at the upcoming Paris Motor Show this October.
While eco-cars may not sound all that exciting, in concept and principle they really are, particularly because they’re just as hard, if not harder to create and engineer successfully than performance-oriented cars, especially when cost is a concern and the word “experimental” is used – the two kind of contradict, hence the extra difficulty.
Autocar says it learned of Renault’s intention to bring an ultra-frugal concept to the Paris motor show, next month. It supposedly previews a future car that would enter production in 2020 and use just 2 l/100km of fuel, or 141 mpg UK / 117 mpg US.
The one who made the information known is Renault’s design boss, Laurens van den Acker, whose exacts words were “We’ve come up with a really interesting concept.”
Looks-wise, the source article says the concept will apparently be a mix of several body styles (hatch, crossover and sports car) and it will take the fight directly to Peugeot’s 208 FE concept, which it also trumps in terms of efficiency, as the Pug only manages ~2.7 l/1km / 106 mpg UK / 88.2 mpg US with its combination of a 1.2-liter petrol engine and a hydraulic boost.
