When the Mercedes-Benz GLA goes on sale in September, it’s expected to be a hot commodity on American Mercedes lots.

Mercedes’ US head Steve Cannon told Automotive News the company isn’t expecting to receive as many GLAs as it can probably sell in the next year. The small crossover segment, including the Buick Encore and BMW X1, is expected to only get larger next year in the US.

Crucially, it’s a popular segment in China. And in Europe, the long sales downturn appears to be reversing.

Cannon cites strong demand for the GLA’s sedan counterpart, the CLA, which has been stung by tight supplies all year in the US.

So if getting in on the littlest Mercedes crossover interests you, act fast or be prepared to wait in line.
