Actually, including the 19 percent Value Added Tax in Germany, the Ferrari 250 GTO’s owners expect it to fetch a staggering 47,600,000 euros, which is approximately $63,930,000!
You don’t have to be very good with numbers in order to realize that it is a much higher asking price than what a mystery buyer shelled for a 1963 Ferrari 250 last year, making it the most expensive car ever sold.
According to the ad on Mobile, this one is a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, one of the very first of a total of 39 units ever built in Modena (and 36 built between 1962 and 1963), which in theory should make it a little more valuable than the newer one that sold last year.
Initially created to compete in FIA’s Group 3 Grand Touring Car category, the 250 GTO was first developed by Giotto Bizzarrini and styled by Sergio Scaglietti – both of which not needing any introduction, we suspect.
The car started development at a turning point in Ferrari’s history, with El Commendatore ousting chief Ferrari engineer Carlo Chiti, along with Giotto Bizzarrini and many others who stood by Chiti, right before the 250 GTO had been completed.
It was a young Mauro Forghieri and Sergio Scaglietti who finished the model, with legendary driver Phil Hill placing it first in class at Sebring, in 1962. The rest, as they say, is history, with the Ferrari 250 GTO becoming one of the most famous prancing horse-wearer in history.
