This incident from the town of Budyonnovsk in Russia should serve as a chilling reminder about the importance and merits of placing safety barriers and audio-visual warnings at railroad crossings.

If the driver was from the area and was aware of the crossing, then he should have practiced defensive driving, slowing down as he approached, but there’s no way of telling, and if he didn’t hear the train horn, how else would he have known?

Luckily, a last second maneuver saved his tail…and possibly his life as well.

And for those of you wondering, that’s not a Mercedes-Benz but a SsangYong Kyron, which does offer a Mercedes-Benz diesel engine.
