This here is a strange one. Firstly, you can’t accuse 25 year-old Emma Czornobaj for being heartless, as she saw a group of ducklings without a mother duck nearby, and decided to stop and see if they were ok – that was quite nice of her. The only problem was that, she stopped on a Canadian highway and caused the death of two people on a motorcycle that slammed into the back of her Honda Civic (?).

Those killed were a 50-year-old father, Andre Roy, who was riding with his 16-year-old daughter, Jessie, as a passenger, under the watchful eyes of Roy’s wife, Pauline, who was riding a different bike behind and saw it all unfold.

The accident took place in June of 2010 and it has taken prosecutors exactly four years to give Czornobaj the final sentence. The 12-member jury tasked with giving the verdict (reportedly) found her guilty in unanimity and charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

Each count of criminal negligence carries the maximum life in prison penalty, while the dangerous driving resulting in death is liable to get up to 14 years in jail.

What do you think? Is this justified or an overreaction of the court that wanted to emphasize that stopping on the highway to help distressed animals “is not worth it” at all cost?
