The 508, which has been recently facelifted to reflect the new Peugeot family face, is having a hard time finding buyers, so it’s being speculated that the French automaker may be looking to replace it with two distinct models.

UK magazine Autocar assures us that this is being considered, quoting none other than Peugeot boss, Maxime Picat. The Frenchman was quoted as saying “We are considering two body styles, one more dynamic, one more spacious and comfortable. But we are seeing how the market goes.”

The British publication highlights Mercedes and its E-Class/CLS sedans that run on the same underpinnings yet look very different and address a totally different clientele. However, we say they don’t have to go that far and need only look at Peugeot’s own past, when it was selling the 407 and 607 at the same time.

Sure, the latter may have been slightly longer, but it rode on the same underpinnings stretched to fit the project.

If this is true, then it means Peugeot may start to take itself more seriously in the sector, something that it clearly didn’t do with the so-so 508 it’s trying to sell now. We hope to see the Exalt concept materialized into production as the sleeker of the two proposed sedans.
