For motorsport fans, the upcoming weekend is probably the most important of the year, as the 82nd Le Mans 24 Hours race is scheduled to start on Saturday. Toyota will attack the weekend with two special vehicles: the 1,000hp TS040 Hybrid on the track, and the PRO40 in the official camp site.
We have talked about the former before, so let’s focus on the special camper vehicle that could be described as the best car for Le Mans spectators.
Based on a standard Toyota Proace van with long-wheelbase and standard roof height, the special camper conversion has been transformed by specialists G&P into four-berth accommodation, complete with gas hob, fridge-freezer, microwave oven, TV and water supply.
Toyota commissioned the bespoke PRO40 campervan for Le Mans, where it will be put to the test as a home-from-home for a team of journalists. The PRO40 features Toyota’s Le Mans racing livery similar to the TS040 Hybrid sportscar.
The Toyota PRO40 is powered by a 126hp 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine. Among the vehicle’s standard features are a rock-and-roll double bed for two, a roof bed for two, twin-burner hob, sink unit and on-board water supply and 39-liter fridge with 5.3-liter freezer compartment.
It also has driver and front passenger seats with full swivel function, dining table and courtesy table, television with Freeview reception, microwave oven, 240v power hook-up with 240v and 12v sockets, LED lighting, diesel-powered heating system and a fire extinguisher.
Customers can achieve a similar conversion for around £12,000 (€14,916), plus VAT.
