Talk of a stretched wheelbase Tesla Model S is not new, and it’s always centered around the Chinese market. This time, Gas 2 says it has insider information that the model is going to be built with the possibility of being revealed by the end of 2014.
One thing’s certain: Tesla will definitely launch a longer wheelbase version of its Model S in China, but doing so by the end of this year seems unlikely.
Given the specifics of the PRC market, it would be rather uninspired of them not to offer one, since these stretched cars are actually the mainstay luxury buys in the country. Chinese buyers even prefer elongated versions of small executive cars like the BMW 3-Series or Audi A4, so it goes without saying that the bigger, more expensive and exclusive Tesla would be forced to follow suit, if its maker wants to leave its mark…
The report suggests this longer Model S could be added to the range before the Model X high-rider, though we’d be weary to believe that, as the crossover has been confirmed to be shown in production form before 2015.
