From time to time, Porsche remembers its heritage and pays tribute to the original and now iconic 356 Speedster with similar versions of its modern day sports car, the 911 series. The common denominator between these models is the chopped down windscreen and the power domes over the engine compartment.

After Porsche ended production of the classic 356 Speedster in 1958, it took Stuttgart a little over three decades to resurrect the formula on the 911 classic in 1989, and again on the renewed 994-generation model, made from late 1992 to 1994.

The one we found on eBay is a 1994 Porsche 911 Speedster, which is mechanically identical to the Carrera 2, with the main differences being the shorter, raked windshield, the twin rear humps and Spartan two-seater interior. The car also came with a “temporary” fabric top in case you had to leave it outside in the rain.

Only 936 units of the 964 Speedster were made, 427 of which were allocated to the USA, and this one comes with the factory-optioned Recaro sports seats. We could be wrong, but it looks like it’s the “Clubsport” version (Porschephiles are more than welcome to confirm or deny this).

The car has 43,663 miles (70,254 km), and as of the time this article was published, 20 bidders had raised the price to $111,000 on eBay without meeting the reserve.
