A rumor has Skoda preparing to launch a more hardcore versions of its Octavia RS performance model next year to mark 40 years since the debut of the Skoda 130 RS, the most successful racing car for the Czech brand.

According to an unnamed source from within the company cited by Czech Republic’s Auto Forum website, the special edition Octavia RS will feature a power increase as well as design tweaks.

Apparently, there are two approaches being considered by Skoda engineers: a mild upgrade using the 230PS 2.0-liter engine from the VW Golf GTI Performance, or a more aggressive modification featuring the 280PS unit from the Seat Leon Cupra 280. In both cases, the Octavia RS would also gain a limited slip differential and would retain its front-wheel drive layout.

More details are expected to surface next year, when the special edition Octavia RS is tipped to launch. The car is expected to be more expensive than regular Octavia RS models but cheaper than the Seat Leon Cupra 280 or VW Golf R.
