As Ferrari is developing a LaFerrari XX, McLaren is reportedly planning to respond with the P1 Track, a circuit-only version that would be even faster and more hardcore than the production model.
According to a report from Autocar, McLaren wrote letters to all 375 P1 owners and prospective customers asking if they would be interested in a faster, track-exclusive P1. McLaren’s letter comes after several customers asked if it would consider building a more focused P1.
For now, the project is in its early stages, with McLaren considering a production in the low double digits in order to make the project financially viable. If built, the P1 Track will be sold exclusively to existing P1 road car owners.
The hardcore P1 is expected to feature a more extreme bodywork (how is that even possible?) to make it stand out from the standard P1, as well as suspension upgrades that would keep the car permanently “glued” to the ground. Other modifications include adding more power and torque.
As Ferrari does with its XX models, the fleet of P1 Track hypercars would be kept by McLaren on behalf of the owners, with the company scheduling track days and events throughout the year for them to drive their cars.
