No, no, no; this is not a repost, but you’re right if BMW‘s latest M4 Coupe Safety Car rings a bell, because a couple of months ago, it presented a similar version for the 2014 MotoGP series. This one, however, was made for the 2014 DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters or in English, German Touring Car Masters) season.
While BMW Motorsports will field eight M4 Coupe racers in the DTM, the purpose of the Safety Car is to enforce drivers to travel at a controlled speed, essentially neutralizing the circuit in the event of an accident or another hazardous incident.
The Safety Car versions of the M4 Coupe for the 2014 seasons of the MotoGP and DTM are almost identical sans for the different livery and different sponsors. Also, the DTM version lacks the motorsport bonnet locks of the MotoGP edition, but gains a KW Coilover suspension.
The car keeps the same 3.0-liter straight-six turbo producing 425hp (431PS) and 550Nm (406 lb-ft) as the stock model, with the addition of an M Performance titanium exhaust. Inside, the rear seats were removed to add a roll cage, while the front seats were replaced with motorsport-style Recaro units.
