The cult of turning old pickup trucks into sports cars with cornering capabilities far beyond what they were originally intended to handle seems to be thriving. It’s like every other modified truck you see on the web these days has adjustable coilovers, trick differentials and wide, sticky tires to help it beat physics and carry as much speed as possible through the bends.

We’ve seen quite a few of these, some of which were clearly professional jobs and looked it, while others position themselves firmly in DIY territory, like the very impressive 1959 Chevy Apache featured on Drive’s Tuned show.

Host Mike Musto doesn’t even know where to begin praising this 500hp V8-swapped sports-truck, a work-in-progress project that will be completed when its owner, Wes Drelleshak, runs out of motivation to keep working on it. Judging by the smile on his face when he talks about his ride, though, that day seems far in the future.

And yes, the inner headlights have been taken out and the openings turned into ram air scoops.
