GM’s growing portfolio of vehicles aimed for police use is welcoming a new member in the guise of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Special Service Vehicle (just call it SSV) that will go on sale this summer.
Police departments across the States will be able to specify the SSV package on the Silverado 1500 Crew Cab in 1WT or 1LS trims with 2WD or AWD and a choice of a 6’6” pickup box or a shorter 5’8” box. All versions are powered by a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 delivering 355hp and a highway fuel economy of up to 23mpg for the rear-wheel drive model.
Some of the features that come as standard on the SSV package are a 170-amp high-output alternator and 730-CCA auxiliary battery to allow officers to use lights, computers and other special equipment even with the engine turned off and a 110-volt outlet.
