Croatian startup manufacturer Rimac Automobili, the small company behind the One all-electric supercar (prototype/concept), has just made the most important step in getting its sole model into the hands of actual buyers: they’ve secured two important investors, one from Colombia and another from Hong Kong.
The former, Frank Kanayet Yepes, is an entrepreneur of Croatian descent now looking to blend his interest in clean energy with his passion for sports cars; no, the last part is not an understatement, because the man actually owns and drives one of only 33 Ferrari 599XXs.
The other investor is a mineral and metals company called Sinocop Resources, and it’s announced that it will buy 10 percent of the company for the equivalent of €5 million, plus an additional €2 million in stock.
This has spurred the company to start looking at expanding. They want to double the number of people they employ from 50 to 100 by the end of 2014, in order to not only help with the car project, but to also start manufacturing electric bicycles and start delivering them this year; these are called the Greyp G-12 and go for €6,000 a pop. Apparently, they can’t even get close to fulfilling orders on these at the moment.
