While many manufacturers boast about the heritage behind their models, they all fall completely flat and become meaningless when Mustang is mentioned. It’s one of Ford’s most prized assets, and it’s one that they have used very effectively, especially as of late, with the release of an impressive all-new model that also marks an important step forward in terms of engineering and technology.

Now, almost exactly 50 years after the first ‘Stang debuted at the 1964 New York auto show, Ford will be revealing a very special version of the current car in order to celebrate. Being a model of high symbolic significance, they will make 1,964 of them in two exclusive colors: Wimbledon White (the color of the first ever Mustang) and Kona Blue.

Other exterior features unique to this limited edition model are the subtle chrome surrounds for each of the three LED blades that make up each rear light, as are the louvered rear quarter windows – both very tasteful ways to differentiate it from lesser ‘Stangs.

Ford calls the interior a cockpit and says that “the aluminum trim panel that spans the double-brow instrument panel gets an axel spin finish different from other 2015 Mustangs, plus a special serialized 50 Year Limited Edition badge on the passenger side.”

Mechanically, the car is based on the GT model, with the Performance Pack fitted. Power from the revised 5.0-liter V8 is rated at 420 hp and one of the very few options buyers will have for the 50th Anniversary edition is choosing either the manual or automatic (six-speed) gearbox variant.

According to the official press information, “the 50 Year Limited Edition car will be among the first 2015 Mustangs built when production begins later this year. Each of the 1,964 50 Year Limited Edition Mustangs will get a unique owner’s guide in a leather portfolio with the 50 Year badge on the outside.”
