This could have ended worse, much, much worse. A man in Morelia, Mexico, who somehow thought it would be a good idea to challenge a large group of protesting students blocking the road, ran over 12 people on Wednesday. Both fortunately and amazingly, no one was killed, with only one woman treated for multiple (non-life threatening) traumas, and the others, for minor injuries.
The driver of the older-gen Dodge Durango initially tried to circumvent the body of students obstructing the road by going through the sidewalk, but he was stopped and then some students attacked him, one of whom threw a bolder at him.
Whatever sympathy he may have garnered up until this point was lost when instead of driving the car to the open road on his right hand side, he turned left – we don’t know if he did it on purpose of if he was dazed – and ran over a dozen or so people.
He then fled the scene and attempted to hide from police. According to Noticieros Televisa, “after an exchange of shots [police] managed to subdue and arrest him, before taking him to the prosecutor’s office facilities” where charges were filed.
