While Ferrari isn’t willing to make a mid-engined car to sit underneath the 458 in its range, not wanting to sell too many cars for fear of it hurting their exclusive image, McLaren has no such issues.
A report from Car&Driver says that they are aiming for sales of 4,000 units per year by 2016, with the help of their upcoming baby model, currently codenamed the P13, expected to debut in 2015.
Said to have a 500 hp engine, the upcoming P13 is now in development as the highest-volume model made under by the Woking-based firm. The power plant it’s expected to use is the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 as the rest of the range, but in a detuned guise.
Looks wise, it’s believed to continue to improve on the P1’s face and feature a low rear deck. C&D says the car would cost the equivalent of $180,000 or €130,500, hit a top speed of 186 mph or 300 km/h and sprint past sixty in around four seconds.
