It’s been an awfully quiet period for the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X that turned seven this year, and while there’s nothing to report for the rest of the world, in the UK, the Japanese brand is stirring up the performance pot with the introduction of a new special edition with no less than 440-horses under its hood.
Made to celebrate the company’s 40th Anniversary in the country and priced from £50,000 (equal to US$82,700 / €60,000), the new Lancer Evolution X FQ-440 MR will be available in only 40 examples for the UK.
Offered exclusively in Frost White (color code W37), the highlight of the special edition is a mechanical tune including an ECU remap, Janspeed exhaust system, intake and intercooler piping kit, all of which help the 2.0-liter turbo mill deliver an impressive 440hp (446PS) at 6,800rpm and peak torque of 412 lb.ft at 3,100rpm.
You can read about all the upgrades in detail in the list that we’ve added below, but among other things that stand out, are the lowered suspension (35mm at the front and 30m at the back) with Eibach springs, 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, a sports braking system, and Recaro branded leather bucket seats.
Interestingly, Mitsubishi says it has also added a data recorder connected through the On-board diagnostic (OBD) system, which keeps details such as driving style, performance, vehicle diagnostics, and present location that “will be available to both CCC and the registered owner of the vehicle“.
According to a company statement, “the fitment of, and reporting of data from this device is a condition of the vehicle warranty. A three year subscription to the service is included in the vehicle price”, so if you don’t want it, you’ll have to sacrifice your warranty…
Lance Bradley, Managing Director for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: “Mitsubishi Motors in the UK are pleased to announce that, as part of our celebrations of being 40 years in the UK, we will be producing 40 special edition Evo Xs. The Lancer Evolution has always been a halo model for Mitsubishi and this special edition is no exception. More powerful than ever before and with a very limited availability, it will be a ‘must have’ for all die-hard Evolution fans!”
