The Mercedes-Benz GLA may be referred to as an SUV, but the truth is, it looks more like a slightly taller, more upmarket A-Class. That brings an advantage in terms of ride quality, as Auto Express discovered while reviewing the GLA. The crossover is more comfortable and refined on bumpy roads, but it has pretty good road-holding capabilities as well.
Later this year, Mercedes-Benz will also offer the GLA with an off-road pack that adds 30mm (1.18 inches) of suspension travel, a special off-road mode for the ESC and a hill-descent control system. While this pack makes it more capable off-road, especially on muddy fields or bumpy dirt tracks, it doesn’t quite turn it into a Land Rover.
So what’s the point of the GLA, besides the more comfortable ride and the optional all-wheel drive? Well, it is more practical, due to its 481-liter boot, which is 40 percent bigger than the A-Class’.
In conclusion, Auto Express says the GLA is more an A-Class estate than an SUV.
