The Porsche 911 GT3, in extra-special RS guise or not, is a darling of the motoring press, with telepathic handling, a crisply-responding naturally-aspirated engine and the fastest of gearchanges via the standard-fit PDK gearbox. It’s a much-liked sports car with supercar performance, but in the eyes of many, it would have been even better had it been offered with a manual gearbox, like the old-gen car was.
Now, a good few months after launch, the GT3 and in particular its even more special RS brother may reportedly be getting one after all. Car&Driver contradicts (and quotes) an earlier report from the UK that went into great detail about the GT3 RS, saying it will only be offered as paddle-operated self-shifter. The Americans say they’ve been made aware that the manual option is apparently being strongly considered.
If it holds true, then we can conjure up a preliminary picture of the upcoming RS: it will be more powerful and stiffer, it will rev higher and also possibly feature active aerodynamics; fenders will also be further flared, according to the same report, in order to fit even wider tires than the current regular GT3’s.
Do read the above with caution, because it may all turn out to be false, since it’s the work of sometimes unreliable insider sources. More is believed to be revealed “soon,” possibly this or next month; Could it be Geneva?
