Dramatic footage of Ukrainian security officers trapping a Citroen hatch on a highway at night near the capital city of Kiev, viciously attacking and smashing the vehicle has just surfaced on YouTube.

At first, you might be inclined to believe that this is just another one of those mind-boggling road rage incidents or abusive police behavior frequently witnessed in the former Soviet republics, but AutoMaidan, a group of independent motorists that seeks the resignation of Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, tells a very different story.

One of its members, Yaroslav Gonchar, was the person driving the Citroen hatch in the video when the security forces attacked, breaking his car and sending him to the hospital after beating him through the side window, as reported by Bloomberg and other news outlets earlier this month, though, at the time, there was no video evidence. The incident occurred on January 19, 2014.

As you can see for yourself in the following picture shared by AutoMaidan, the French car suffered extensive damages.

The situation in Ukraine is extremely tense and volatile, both inside and out, with Russia pulling one direction, and the West, including the EU and the USA, another. For the past few months, protesters have been on the streets demanding Russia-backed President Viktor Yanukovych give up power.
