Opel will premiere an all-new engine on the Adam city car at the Geneva Motor Show, the 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo gasoline unit. Mated to a new generation six-speed manual gearbox, the all-aluminum mill comes in two states of tune: 89hp (90PS) and 114hp (115PS).
Both versions deliver 166 Nm (122 lb-ft) of torque from just 1,800 rpm and promise low noise and vibrations for a three-cylinder unit that Opel says are “even superior to many four-cylinder units”.
For example, in bench testing at full throttle, it emits lower noise levels across all engine speeds than similarly powerful gasoline naturally-aspirated engines of 1.6-liters displacement.
The engines are fitted as standard with Start/Stop functionality, resulting in an average fuel consumption of as low as 4.3 l/100 km (54.7 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km (preliminary figures for the 89hp version). The Opel Adam with the new 1.0-liter engines will go on sale in late spring 2014, with production starting in the summer.
In addition to the new engines, the Opel Adam gets new colors, interior décors and trim options, all of which will be revealed in Geneva. The new colors expand the model’s customization options to 16 shades that can be used for both body and roof, plus six different roof colors that can be combined with the exterior.
On the inside, the 2014 Opel Adam brings three new seat fabrics, three new decors, two new colors, a new headliner, two new interior mirror colors, three new exterior mirror cap decors, as well as one new logo bar color and two new sets of exterior decals.
